I am pleased to announce that I’ll be participating in Vegan Month of Food (aka Vegan MoFo) for the first time this month. If you’re not familiar with it, Vegan Mofo is a yearly blogathon in which vegan bloggers challenge themselves to post as much new and interesting content about vegan cooking and lifestyle as they can during the month of September. The goal is for participants to post essentially every day (Yes, everyday!) in order to get their creative juices flowing, strengthen their writing muscles, and build relationships with other bloggers along the way.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a wee bit intimidated by the endeavor. For one, it’s hard enough to hammer out a single post a week when I normally don’t get home from work before 8PM. And then there’s the whole issue of my fledgling little blog trying to hold its own next to the big shot blogs I’ve been following for years (I’m talking about you, Vegan Miam). But it’s also exhilarating to be part of something bigger than myself, and to have the opportunity to learn and be inspired by those with more experience than me.
Many bloggers go all out for Vegan MoFo and have already been planning and preparing their posts according to single, incredibly creative themes, like veganizing classic recipes, or cooking their way through a favorite cookbook. I, on the other hand, am going to treat this challenge as I would (will?) treat my first marathon, which is to say that as long as I get to the end, no matter how I got there, I’ll be pretty darn proud of myself. The plan for now is to go with the flow, see how it feels once I get started, and just wing it in terms of topics and themes.
That being said, I’m anticipating that my posts will cover a wide array of subjects that haven’t gotten much airtime so far on the blog. Expect to see some local restaurant reviews, no-frills weeknight recipes, product reviews, and a few how-tos. I have no doubt that there are going to be some days when I’m itching for inspiration, so, readers, I’m going to need your help. If there’s a theme you’d like me to cover, a recipe you’d love to see veganized, or a question you have about the vegan lifestyle, please post it in the comments section and I’ll do my best to cover it this month.
